Weather in Bowling Green

The Mayor’s Weekly Article

Thanks to all who attended and donated to the PACT Gospel Sing last Sunday afternoon. We certainly have great talent in Pike County and the Spirit of the Lord was in this place!

I hope those who attended Pike County Fair had a fun time at all the activities the Fair Board arranged. Thanks, Fair Board for all your hard work and commitment to making each year a memorable experience!

It’s a hot time around Bowling Green with the weather and all the activities going on! Fieldhouse 54 seemed to be a huge success as there was a Famers Market along with bake sales, children’s clothing, hats, T-shirts, and other apparel, and an open bar in a separate area. Amy Worthington has put a great amount of money and effort into an amazing facility that is Bowling Green’s answer to an “activity center.” Line dancing, food trucks, Sugar Shack, cornhole games, and big screen TVs for watching the St. Louis Cardinals and other sports. DJ Eric McGlenn was on hand to play music and add fun to a full day’s activities. Thanks, Amy, for building a facility that will provide a variety of activities and fun for individuals and families of all ages. Amy has a vision to provide a connecting point for all citizens in and around Bowling Green!  Please support and engage in this wonderful opportunity in BG.

I’ve written about the power of unity before, but I think a gentle reminder is good. There is power in unity and with that comes a bond of security and accomplishment. You look at successful athletic teams, organizations of a city, and even nations that unite and work together for a common cause and success. Peace comes from a confidence that “someone’s got my back!” Whether family, friends, neighbors, or police, it brings a peace and confidence that I’m not in this “life thing” alone. Yet how many shut-ins, military veterans, homeless, or economically underserved feel like nobody cares or they’re all alone in life. These summer months, though hot, are still a good times to reach out in our neighborhoods and “connect” with those we don’t normally associate. Living in, on the outskirts, working and playing here, and/or doing business here, you are still a part of the Bowling Green family! We need to connect with others on a more personal level beyond a simple “Hi” or wave. Connecting doesn’t guarantee the absence of conflict, but it does mean having a predetermined mindset for friendliness and genuine interest in another person’s life, health, and renewing or building friendships. There is a program called NEXTDOOR where you follow a protocol in checking on your neighbors in heat, cold, or emergencies. There is training to follow procedures and protocols. There are also certified programs in teaching how to apply temporary emergency rescue techniques till medical help arrives.

The citizens of Bowling Green and Pike County need to spearhead, target, and be directly involved in economic development in retail, restaurant, and manufacturing expansion.
