As the United States embarks on its historic 250th anniversary celebration, “We the people” stands as a powerful reminder of who we are and what we can achieve together. I hope over the next 12 months that Americans of all nationalities, races, cultures, religions, villages, towns, cities, and states will join in honoring our nation’s enduring spirit of freedom! As I have traveled to several other countries, precious “freedom” does not come across in their societies. Our commemorative journey is not just a look back to our Founding Fathers but a look forward with a spirit of unity, purpose, and hope for the next 250 years of America’s greatness!
Bowling Green is a part of America’s greatness as we celebrate the opportunities our nation affords everyone. It’s not always been that way and there are still challenges many must overcome to achieve their hopes and dreams. Bowling Green and America are still the “LAND OF OPPORTUNITY.” We, as a city, are expanding which opens the doors for a greater and opportunistic work force. The United States thrives on the small business sector and Bowling Green is growing in that aspect every month. We are adding new in-home businesses every month which meet the needs and desires of our growing BG residents. We are also drawing customers from nearby towns and villages to meet their desires and wants as well. This process blesses the city, our parks and lakes, our Visitor’s Bureau, and our local services and businesses. New plumbing businesses with brick and mortar, Field House 54 with activities and entertainment for all ages, various styles of housing, demolition of houses and rebuilding anew, a new laundromat, and Pesky Critters new injection process to save Ash trees from the invasion of destructive insects. The list could go on with an additional Thrift Store on Business Highway 54, activities around Bowling Green like the St. Clement Picnic on July 19 at the KC Hall, Gospel Sing at the Fairgrounds main building on July 20 from 3-5:00 pm. Fair Week from July 22-26.
I will be attending a Downtown Revitalization Conference on July 22-24 to better highlight our Historical Districts, develop economic businesses to increase community and visitors’ activity, and showcase our commercial atmosphere on how to be more attractive and inviting. We already do a very good job of this, but there are always new ideas in marketing and promotion. Networking with other cities and businesses offers enticements to welcome other tourists and visitors to our wonderful community. It is vitally important, especially at this time of year, to keep our grass and lawns looking great, our landscaping attractive, our houses and sheds beautified, and impressions of our town positive and inviting. This beautification of our town keeps people and potential customers coming back, builds civic pride, mutual support in our attractive neighborhoods, parks, businesses and services, develops a love thy neighbor mentality and says, “Come live in our amazing community! Look for and attend the upcoming Music in the Park.
