The Bowling Green Airport Board was very disappointed that we had to cancel our 5th Annual Wings and Wheels due to rain. However, the City-wide Yard Sale was another big and successful event around the town. If you, as a yard sale host had a lot of leftovers, the Pike County Christian School would appreciate any donations for their upcoming yard sale fund raiser. They are in Curryville for drop-off or you can call the School at 573-324-2700.
The new splash pad in the big park construction continues but has delays due to all the rain. The Park Board is again busy planning activities for the summer and early fall. They are always looking for helpers, new board members, (you must live within the city limits), or friends of the park. Helpers and friends cannot vote but you can certainly attend planning meetings and be a part of the working functions in the activities that go on. Looking for a place to serve your community? Meetings are on the third Wednesday of the month unless there is a holiday on a Monday which pushes back Alderpersons meetings.
The Bowling Green City Comprehensive Planning Committee had their second meeting at Two Scoops and discussed our City’s strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats. We made a list in each of the categories and then discussed how we, as a community, could change weaknesses into strengths and threats into opportunities. It was very interesting and engaging as the various members, made up of various ages and genders, gave positive input, ideas, and suggestions, as they represented their identity groups. This City Planning Committee is looking at our current status and then looking into the future for our potential and possibilities. We also went over many of the surveys turned into both paper and online. The survey results covered: ages, employment, live in or out of the city limits, level of education, factors that could make you consider moving into the city of Bowling Green, how long have you lived in or out of the city limits, your type of housing, your satisfaction with where you are living and with the City’s services, if you commute to work, where you envision your City of Bowling Green to be in 20 years, if you’re pleased with current level of businesses, commercial development, if you would cost-share in further development where city funds could not cover new development, if you’re satisfied with infrastructure development, how often do you use our parks and recreational facilities-biking, walking, playgrounds, lakes, pavilions, transportation issues, dissatisfaction with the city and why, downtown storefront and other building facades, and finally, what kind of businesses or services do you feel are lacking in our city. Cindy Hultz from Mark Twain Regional Council of Governments is working with a comprehensive group of professional city planners for Bowling Green at no cost to us.
