Weather in Bowling Green

The Mayor’s Weekly Article

Thanks to all who worked and supported Options for Women’s Walk for Life this past Saturday in the Park. A great turnout, the weather was perfect for walking, and the food was delicious. Profits went to a great cause in supporting the work of helping women and saving lives. Thanks Option workers and volunteers for putting on this great community event.

Another special event is happening of Friday, May 30 at the Bowling Green Church of the Nazarene Bar-Be-cue and Bake Sale. Proceeds go to children and youth camps and the time are from 11:00 am till 6 pm. They offer dinner meals, sandwiches, and you can preorder, dine in, and they will deliver for 5+ orders. Call 573-324-2450 for more details.

On Saturday, June 7 you have two great opportunities to spend the day in Bowling Green. Besides our super shops and stores there is the City-wide yard sale and Wings and Wheels at the airport. If you would like to have your home address and location on a city-wide yard sale map, you will need to come into City Hall to do so. The same applies if you want to do your yard sale in the main park. It’s always a big day in Bowling Green for bargains. Wings and Wheels at the airport starts at 10:00 and goes through 3:00. Come and see unique airplanes, cool cars, trucks, and motorcycles. Food trucks of various types will be there for ice cream, fajitas, bake goods, and drinks. Ryan Bibb is loaning his big tent and there are picnic tables for eating and shade. Come on out for a fun-filled time and then go Bowling Green’s yard sales. Or do the yard sales and then come to the airport for Wings and Wheels.

The city’s main park’s new splash pad project is proposed to start on June 2 and take 4-6 weeks to complete. Any ideas for what you would like to see in our parks? Contact a BG Park and Rec Board member and share your ideas for new additions or activities!

Due to an increased standard deduction, many individuals and couples no longer are able to claim itemized deductions. However, there is a tax-free IRA charitable rollover that offers benefits to individuals 70 ½ or older. Many people are now making donations to cities to keep their family names and legacies continuing. You can have the ability to direct an IRA or gift up to $100,000 to Bowling Green, for instance, or other qualified charities. Plus, you can do this without increasing taxable income. There is no loss of your charitable contribution via itemized deductions, and you can direct your gift to any area in Bowling Green’s operations. For example, you can specify your donation to the Police Department, our BG lakes, or sidewalks around the school. For more information, contact your banker or financial advisor.

Love Thy Neighbor is still looking for volunteers.
