Weather in Bowling Green

The Mayor’s Weekly Article

I hope the majority of readers had a nice Holy Week and especially Easter. This time of year, is the Cornerstone of a major part of the world’s religions for Christians as they celebrate the Resurrection of Jesus from the dead and Jews as they celebrate Passover.  Bowling Green is bustling again with more beautification, cleaning up and out of weeds to old appliances, and making Bowling Green look attractive again. Building and expansion are continuing along with streets that will be paved and water and sewer lines upgraded. Broadband has been enhanced for more and faster service plus more and more activities at the Parks with special events and at the airport.

Wings and Wheels is set for Saturday, June 7th from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm. Cars, trucks, motorcycles, food vendors, remote- controlled airplanes by the Atkinson family, and family activities will be on hand for a fun-filled day. Our Bowling Green Airport Board has applied for a grant for a terminal/maintenance type building and things are progressing nicely for this possibility. This expansion could lead to a flight training school, providing jet A fuel for helicopters and jets, and other potential opportunities for revenue sources. The terminal has the possibility of offering a pilot’s area for reports and paperwork, restrooms, storage and maintenance supplies, a lobby and potential pilot sleeping rooms for rest between fights. LaDon Atkinson and Gregg Sanford were added to the Bowling Green Airport Board and Kevin Horner was elected president/chairman of the board. The other board members are Mark Bair and Robbie Scott. It is exciting to see this overlooked jewel in our City’s growth along with the other housing and business growth. This Wings and Wheels will have a special dedication to Jim Saucier who dedicated over fifty years to serving, promoting, and developing the BG Municipal Airport.

As the Park Board had a very successful Easter egg hunt, they are planning more and more activities from music in the park to Bowling Green wide yard sales to beautifying and replacing equipment, borders around the lower playground, and Art in the Park on Saturday May 3rd. The City-Wide Yard Sale will be on Saturday, June 7th.  If you desire to set up in the park itself, there is a $20 fee. If you desire to have your address listed on a city map for yard sale locations, the fee is $12. Art in the Park will provide another fun-filled day with art projects, face painting, learning how to draw, watercolor painting, and many other aspects of artistic expression. Bring your children and art lovers for a unique experience as cultural development is experienced by young, middle, and oldsters. Vendors, food trucks, and other activities for children and families are planned as well.

Mud Fest was another outstanding event on the northern aspects of Bowling Green. It draws great crowds and participants from all over. Other events are planned so stay tuned to our papers, KJFM, Facebook, and other social media sources.
