Weather in Bowling Green

The Mayor’s Weekly Article

Welcome to Balmy Bowling Green where it is our passion to make your living experience bright, bountiful, and bold with unforgettable experiences in everyday life. Our collection of features includes itineraries to the most sought-after destinations in Pike County and NE Missouri. Outstanding experiences are distributed across all our Historic Courthouse, Champ Clark Honey Shuck house, and our Genealogy Museum and Jail. Amish Country awaits the inquisitive as well as the John Basye Memorial, our War Memorials at the Courthouse, and our Blue Star Memorial Marker at the Convention and Visitors Bureau. We have a plethora of fast-food restaurants like McDonalds, Subway, Pizza Hut, Hardees, Taco Bell, Dairy Queen, and fueling stations for not only gas but many other foods and beverages like Casey’s, Crossroads, Warrenton Shell North and South, and Ayerco. Shops like Henny Penny, Kountry Store, Anne Layne, Gypsy Soul, and Worthington House are available for ladies clothing, shoes, and home décor. Coffee houses like Spring Hallow, their kiosk near Wal-Mart, and Full Throttle provide many choices of coffees, teas, and other soft drinks. There are our beautiful parks and lakes to take in sight seeing, boating, fishing, kayaking, hiking and trail walking, and frisbee golf. Bowling Green’s experienced travel specialists can help you find our Municipal Airport, Prairie’s Edge, Tractor Supply, Dollar General, Poage and Boland car and truck dealerships, and the John W. Basye Cabin, (founder of Bowling Green).

I look at our newly paved streets and I see torn up patches all over town. They look like the Beaches of Normandy at the close of WWII. The City is replacing, renewing, and repairing for the future and growth. The patches will be replaced with asphalt, but it will take time. Growth is neither cheap nor easy, but it is much better than remaining stagnant and dying. Our work force is growing as well! In a time where businesses are striving to attract and keep top talent, growing focus is on creating a thriving workplace environment that supports an employee’s well-being, but must align with the business’s core values and beliefs. In workplace studies to attract and keep top talent, it is found that the workplace must have PURPOSE – not just money, PASSION to meet people’s needs, and must have PRODUCTIVITY for worker satisfaction. Gen X and Z are making $18-20 dollars an hour for jobs three years ago that paid $7.95/hour but are still not able to make it on their own. Let me quickly add that today’s workers are more interested in making the top dollar than they are health insurance and retirement benefits.

Check out the Bowling Green Police Department Facebook page and all that they do to keep our community safe! Champ Clark Heritage Day Festival is Saturday, September 14. Make a fun day of food venders, crafts, activities for children, bingo, Amish foods and handiwork, plus music, fun, and festive fellowship. Bring a neighbor that doesn’t get out much and enjoy the car and truck show and many other attractions!
